For continuous drying of SF6 gas during operation
SF6 has been used in medium and high voltage switchgear for decades due to its high quenching and insulating properties. However, these excellent properties are reduced by moisture and can lead to failure or – at worst – destruction of the switchgear due to flashover. Previously, if high moisture levels were detected, the switchgear would have to be decommissioned and the gas would have to be changed, which is an expensive and time-consuming procedure.
The SmartDryer SF6 makes it easy to „dry“ the gas while the switchgear is in use, thus eliminating downtimes and signifi cantly cutting maintenance costs. The SmartDryer SF6 can be controlled remotely, so no permanent on-site control is required.
Depending on the type of switchgear, it is possible to select two operating modes. For permanent drying of the gas in circuit, the gas compartment should have two connection couplings. For the second operating mode (cyclic drying), a certain amount of gas is taken from the gas compartment and this gas remains in the four filters under high pressure to allow the filter material enough time to act. After an operator defined time, the gas will be automatically pumped back into the compartment. There is no need for extra internal storage vessels and internal pumping in circuit, as this only heats up the gas unnecessarily, causing additional noise and increasing the power consumption of the system.
The drying parameters for both functions can be monitored and entered very easily via the integrated 7“ touchscreen. The maximum gas quantity to be recovered depends on the minimum admissible filling pressure in the gas compartment. This value is entered by the operator before starting the drying function and will then be automatically controlled by the system. If necessary, the gas compartment pressure can be increased to the max. pressure before starting the drying function, thus increasing the gas quantity per drying process.
The integrated temperature compensation system allows the values to be entered as a standard at 20 °C and the system automatically adjusts the values to the currently valid conditions. The integrated temperature sensor permanently checks the actual temperature and ensures the correct temperature adjustment. High-precision pressure and moisture sensors in the drying unit control the drying process and ensure continuous and trouble-free operation.
